It is one of the best helmets i've tried. The weight is great and some of the downsides is the MIPS version is a little heavier and the ventilation is not as good.

Curious about the Lazer G1 MIPS Helmet? Wonder no more, as I delved into three YouTube videos to unveil the secrets of the experts. I’ll simplify it so you can grasp it easily.

Safety and Protection

The Lazer G1 MIPS Helmet prides itself on an excellent safety record. It features the industry-standard MIPS system designed to reduce head injury in the event of a crash. This helmet’s safety credentials have earned it a 5-star rating from Virginia Tech, their highest level of protection rating. The MIPS version of the helmet contains a traditional MIPS liner, providing a reliable impact protection system.

Fit and Comfort

The Lazer G1 MIPS Helmet employs the innovative Advance RollSys System, which sets it apart from the traditional dial fit system used by other brands. The helmet’s straps are easily adjustable, requiring minimal setup out of the box. The RollSys technology, represented by a small dial atop the helmet, works by controlling a wire that runs around the helmet. As you turn the dial, the wire adjusts the cradle evenly around your head, ensuring balanced pressure and a comfortable fit. Moreover, Lazer includes two sets of pads for the helmet’s interior—a race set for lightweight and a comfort set for extra cushioning. This allows for customized comfort even during lengthy cross-country rides.

Ventilation

The G1 MIPS Helmet has 22 vents, including front and side vents, offering optimal ventilation and protection against elements like rain and cold. Compared to the previous Z1, this helmet has superior ventilation. However, the MIPS liner could potentially obstruct ventilation, an issue Lazer is currently looking to solve.

Aerodynamics

Despite not being marketed explicitly as an aerodynamic helmet, the Lazer G1 MIPS offers a few features to enhance aero performance. It is lightweight and airy, a welcome trait that harks back to the hairnet helmets of the ’80s. Additionally, it has a smaller frontal area beneficial to aerodynamics, and is compatible with the Aeroshell. This optional addition can make the helmet more aerodynamic, serve as a rain shield, or help keep your head warm in freezing conditions.

Weight

The G1 MIPS Helmet is very lightweight, weighing in at 224 grams for the MIPS version and 220 grams for the non-MIPS version. This makes it around 25 grams lighter than the previous Z1 model. Compared to similar helmets on the market, such as the 275-gram Giro Scythe, the G1 stands out as a remarkably lightweight choice.

Style and Design

The Lazer G1 MIPS Helmet comes with a stylish transport bag and a neatly designed looped strap, as opposed to the two straps found on other helmets. It boasts an aesthetically pleasing design, available in a wide array of colors. However, the helmet’s more oval shape might not fit perfectly on round heads. While it does support sunglasses, it may not hold them as well as other helmets in the Lazer lineup.

Overall Notes

The Lazer G1 MIPS Helmet shines with its 5-star safety rating, exceptional ventilation, and lightweight design. Despite the MIPS version being slightly heavier and having less optimal ventilation, it remains one of the best helmets on the market. With a weight that’s 51 grams lighter than many comparable models, it feels like you’re wearing practically nothing, making for an impressively comfortable riding experience.
