This Lazer Z1 helmet did an unexpected compromise when it comes to ventilation for better impact performance. With its price, I wished Lazer would have a place to put my sunglasses when I am not using it. Overall this is a good helmet

It is not the lightest helmet nor a cheap budget helmet. But with all of its add-on features that you can't find elsewhere, this is a pretty good helmet at its price.

After delving into three YouTube videos presented by helmet experts, our reviewer has gained a wealth of knowledge about the Lazer Z1 MIPS Helmet. Let’s dive into the key takeaways.
Safety and Protection
The Lazer Z1 Helmet comes in two versions, with or without the MIPS system. This helmet has been certified to EN1078 standards (UK) and has earned a prestigious 5-star rating from the independent tests conducted by Virginia Tech. Its MIPS liner permits the head to move inside the helmet, a design feature claimed to reduce brain trauma in the event of a crash.
Fit and Comfort
Equipped with the advanced RollSys system, the Z1 enables riders to finely adjust the helmet’s fit right from the top. For more granular adjustments, a ratchet at the bottom of the helmet comes handy. The adjustment screw on the helmet’s top works smoothly, and the helmet fits snugly without any pressure points. The single-finger adjustable RollSys retention system contributes to a clean, neat look.
Ventilation
The Z1 is home to 31 vents, enhancing airflow and keeping the rider cool. However, note that the MIPS liner does obstruct some vents, somewhat hampering the airflow. Despite this, the helmet’s comfort and ease of adjustment have received positive feedback.
Aerodynamics
While the Z1 isn’t strictly an aero helmet, its compatibility with the Aeroshell enhances its aerodynamic qualities and provides weather protection when riding in the rain. Its front cutout design is a bonus, allowing for excellent visibility even when the rider’s head is down.
Weight
At around 230-300 grams (depending on size), the Z1 is a relatively lightweight helmet, competitive with other premium offerings on the market.
Style and Design
The Z1’s design features a large front cutout for improved visibility and a dip in the back for added head protection. For those who wear glasses, an attachable feature is available for purchase that securely fastens your glasses to the helmet straps. A carry bag and a spare set of padding are included, catering to storage, transport, and comfort needs. The Z1 offers unique plug-in features like a pop-on rainshell and an LED light for increased visibility at night.
Overall Notes
The Lazer Z1 MIPS Helmet delivers a quality protection system, a comfortable fit, and a host of customizable add-ons to suit different needs. However, the MIPS version compromises slightly on ventilation for enhanced impact performance. Though it’s neither the lightest nor the most budget-friendly helmet out there, the value it offers through its myriad add-ons, combined with solid safety credentials, makes it a worthy contender at its price point.
