Great computer
I love the computer, the functionality, but there is so much you can customize that it is a bit complex. There is definitely a learning curve, however, I do feel it is worth it. I love having my varia radar, routes, climbs, and all the data right at my fingertips.

Happy about upgrading from 830 to 1040
I am happy that I upgraded from 830 to 1040 (Garmin Edge 1040 that is, not to the IRS 1040). I wanted a bigger & better display than the 830's to read heart rate, cadence, power as large numbers as well as time, time of day (not to miss the kid's school pickup), distance, and speed in small numbers, all on one screen. Looks great on the 1040. In addition, I like the auto-climb feature, even though the climb data seems to lag a bit behind my actual position. However, the look-ahead info is still super helpful. I have also started to use the training screen that guides me to the right heart beat (zone) during the training session (that makes the slow Zone 2 rides a bit more bearable). In summary, I am very happy with the 1040 for the last two weeks (250 miles so far) and highly recommend it.

The perfect bicycle computer
I was able to download all my ridewithgps routes onto my 1040 for Spain and Portugal and the unit would anounce my up coming turn and distance perfectly. At the end if the day I could see all of stats which were very easy to pull up and my main screen was a cinch to format it with what I wanted to see as I was riding. With its very long battery life I wasn't worried about it dying on me after 6 or more hours in the saddle. or

Buggy
This 1040—like the 1030—is buggy. At least twice with the 1040, and several times with the 1030 and 1030 Plus, I have gone out to ride to find the 1040 charge at 1% even though it had shown 40-50% charge at the end of my previous ride a couple of days earlier. Very frustrating. There is a bug in the software. Otherwise, the 1040 does a good job.

The Perfect Bicyle Computer
This is the most important device on my bike. It records my results, keeps me informed about my other Garmin and Shimano components and provides safety by alerting my of vehicles and other cyclist approaching from behind.

Upgrading my old 1030 to the new 1040
I really enjoyed the ease of replacing my old 1030 to the newer 1040. Most of the features were the same. Overall the device was very user friendly and controls intuitive/instinctive. I did experience an issue with the lap counter and start/stop buttons on the 1040. However I soon realized it was a user error and not a problem with the device. I am very happy with the purchase. I would like to thank Jason again for explaining the errors on my old 1030 along with his advice to upgrade to the 1040.

Still under review
Replaced my 1030 and am still learning the differences. This unit does not connect with my DUB like my old unit did, not sure where the disconnect lies. The screen that is integrated with Training Peaks workouts is different and I do not like it as much but, there may be an identical screen which I have not found yet. Other then those 2 issues, I love it.

Much improved from the 1030
I am most happy with the improved touch screen visibility and responsiveness. It was definitely time for an upgrade.
