Why We Like The Forefront 2 MIPS Helmet
Mountain biking protective gear is constantly being re-engineered to be lighter, stronger, and sleeker, seeing demanding trail and all-mountain riders want more comfortable helmets without sacrificing good looks. Following this evolution in design, the Smith Forefront 2 MIPS Helmet builds on the success of the original with increased aerodynamics, heightened protection, and airy-cool ventilation in a sleek, attractive lid for trail and all-mountain disciplines.
Smith's proprietary Aerocore In-Mold construction pairs traditional EPS foam with Koroyd tubular structures for better ventilation and a lighter overall weight, but without sacrificing impact dispersion and structural integrity. For the Forefront 2 Helmet, Smith fully encompasses the backside of the helmet with Koroyd structures for an even lighter, more airy feel than before. 20 optimized vents work with Koroyd tubular structures, allowing built-up heat to readily escape in all directions, so you're not susceptible to overheating and excessive sweating.

Nice, not perfect

Helmet is very nice, fit is good and allows decent airflow. I was disappointed to find out that it was 2 years old (mfg date Oct 2022). If I had paid full price I would have sent it back but at 40% off I can live with that. The light mount is difficult to find info on, even from Smith. I ended up buying a 3D printed one from Etsy. I contacted Smith about what mount to use and they were VERY unhelpful (“try a camera hotshoe”). Their suggestion won’t work for a GoPro style mount. Last quirk is that there is no padding at the rear of the helmet near the dial. This is fine for normal riding but with a light on top it makes a pressure point.

Crash tested and Amazing
I had a big crash on the White Rim trail that broke my collarbone and dented my helmet, left me with a knot above my left eye as well. My helmet was on tight and kept me from what could have been a terrible head injury. I will replace with same helmet when I can ride again. The ability to lock this helmet tight on my head was key. The ER doc was impressed!

Solid helmet

Looks good and feels pretty good. My hair gets stuck in one spot in the front sometimes and I get a bit of a headache if I have it tightened down snuggly. Only giving four stars because I ended up with a whole different color combo from what I ordered, but I like it now that it’s here.

Comfortable, good fit and breaths well in heat.
Great helmet. It’s comfortable, fits really well. Love the honeycomb mesh on the inside (added bonus as it keeps the bug out). Breaths well in hot weather.

Helmet was halfway through it's usable life when I received it
This is my 4th or 5th Smith helmet over the years. I'm a fan of them. The last one I bought was on sale and when I received it, I noticed that it was manufactured 18 months ago. The recommendation is to retire your helmet after 3 years from the manufacture date so the one I received won't be usable for very long.
